Model Abbey Clancy, the wife of footballer Peter Crouch, has been left 'devastated' after burglars broke into the couple's home and stole their Christmas presents.

Abbey, 25, and her 30-year-old husband returned home after a night out to find their £4.5m Cheshire home had been burgled.

A friend of the couple told British newspaper the Daily Mirror: 'Abbey and Peter are naturally distressed that this has happened, particularly in the run-up to Christmas.'

The couple's nine-month-old daughter, Sophia Ruby, was said to be with relatives at the time.

The thieves are thought to have been watching the house and waiting for Clancy and Crouch to leave before forcing their way in through a kitchen window on Tuesday.

They took Rolex watches worth thousands of pounds, along with jewellery and Christmas gifts bought for friends and family.

Abbey telephoned police just after 7.20pm.

A Cheshire police spokesman said: 'Thieves broke in to the house via a kitchen window, stealing jewellery and electrical items.'
